With respect to the Clinton Administration indictment of Bin Laden in 1998: "Additionally, the indictment states that Al Qaeda reached an agreement with Iraq not to work against the regime of Saddam Hussein and that they would work cooperatively with Iraq, particularly in weapons development." Posted by: John Foster at November 22, 2005 08:55 PMInsufficient to launch an idiotic war in such a volitile, vital and complicated region of the earth. All these politicians need adult supervision.
Posted by: Wintermute at November 22, 2005 09:24 PMNevermind the trumped up intelligence, b/c no one will ever be able to prove definitively if the administration lied or not. What we should really be worried about is the staggering sums of money we (as is in all 291 million Americans - of all political leanings) have borrowed from the Chinese to finance this boondoggle. Once they start to demand a higher interest rate to carry all those treasuries, all holders of consumer credit will really have something to be concerned about. And what about "Shock and awe"? Let's face it, this war was supposed to frighten the restless Arabs in the Middle East. Well, if the behavior of Iran and its leaders is a baramoter of the fear that we have imposed - boy we are really sucking dirt. In any event, we'll be out of Iraq in 12 months.
I doubt that there will be proof that the intelligence was minipulated but, those folks sold the hell out of war!
I always thought that this war was a huge mistake. The war was started out of weakness and it has just proven how weak the USA really is now. An strong and confident nation would have used the intelligence and police agencies of the world to round up those murderers. The Air Force & Green Berets did Afghanistan very well. Now they need the follow up of aid and development to keep the people off the path of madness. That takes money.
Iraq costs something like a Billion dollars a week. What do we get for that money? A deeper hole. This Iraq war is the USA's biggest mistake, aside from Vietnam, in the last 100 years and it may yet rival or even pass Vietnam.
